The full line up for Unknown Pleasures and Unknown Pleasures at The Quays has been announced. To recap, UP will run at The Manchester Academy from Friday 29th of June. The all day show at Salford Quays will take place on Sunday 15th of July 2007.
Teenage wasteland has already confirmed that The Noisettes, Findlay Brown and Adjagas will play the Manchester Academy. However, the Manchester International Festival has now announced the following acts; The Wombats, Wild Beasts, Nina Nastasia and Jim White, Foals, Light Speed Champion, Alberta Cross, Final Fantasy and The Teenagers.
What are these bands like?
The Wombats are one of the hottest young bands in Liverpool, with a Beach Boys, Nick Drake and Kraftwerk tinged sound. Wild Beasts are from Leeds ( need you ask ) and have now been signed to Domino Records, (home to Artic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand.) Nina Nastasia is a New York based singer song writer, and her fans included the late John Peel. Foals play hard core lo-fi, with an ultra stripped down sound. Light Speed Champion are fronted by Devonte Hynes, of Test Icles fame. This band are influenced by The Smashing Pumpkins, Fleetwood Mac and Nirvana. Alberta Cross are London based folk rockers. Big influences include Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen, (ask your Dad.) Final Fantasy is all about Owen Pallett, who works with Canadian superstars Arcade Fire. Owen has got some rockstar fans, such as David Bowie, Bloc Party and U2. The Teenagers are a Parisian indie band. Their next record, titled Homecoming, is due out next month.
MIF have announced the following bands for the show at the Quays; The Gossip, The Horrors and The Whip. The Gossip’s debut album, Standing in the way of control, won over some big name admirers, including Jarvis Cocker and Noel Gallagher. The Horrors do pretty much what it says on the tin. Fueled by 60’s garage (The Stooges) and overactive imaginations, they should bring the house down. Finally, The Whip are a Manchester based band, with a strong New Order influence (aren’t they all.)
Tickets are on sale to members from Tuesday 24 April and to the general public on Tuesday 1 May for Unknown Pleasures. Tickets for Unknown Pleasures at the Quays are free and available through a ballot, by contacting Quaytickets on 0870 111 2000 from 1 May or visiting www.quaytickets.com
